HALLOWELL — Every November Spectrum Generations, the Central Maine area agency on aging, takes the time to recognize family caregivers.
A Caregiver’s Tea will be held from 2 to 3 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 8, at Spectrum Generations Cohen Community Center, 22 Town Farm Road.
To attend the tea, RSVP by e-mailing Becca or Liz at Spectrum Generations at [email protected] or [email protected], or call 1-800-282-0764, ext. 127 or 139.
Providing care for a family member with a form of dementia presents additional challenges. Spectrum Generations Family Caregiver Support Program offers Savvy Caregiver trainings many times throughout the year. Training will be offered from 1 to 3 p.m. Mondays, beginning Nov. 28, at the Cohen Community Center.
Participants will learn what dementia is and how it affects the individual and develop skills on how to interact and communicate with a person with dementia. They will also find out where to go for resources and services to help support themselves, as well as the person with dementia.
The trainings are sponsored by the Office of Elder Services, Department of Health and Human Services and funded by a grant from the U.S. Administration on Aging.
Throughout the six week training, participants build an attitude that fosters confidence and a sense of mastery in their caregiver role, and feedback will be provided and strategies developed to support successful caregiving.
To preregister for the training, or for more information about support groups, call or e-mail Becca or Liz at Spectrum Generations.
