ELLSWORTH, Maine — A Bar Harbor girl reported missing Monday has been found and returned home, according to police.
But another girl reported missing from Sorrento still has not been found, according to Maine Department of Public Safety Spokesman Steve McCausland.
The Bar Harbor girl, Amethyst Geiger, 17, had been missing since Oct. 24, according to the Bar Harbor Police Department. Officer Thom Tardiff said Tuesday that Geiger was located by her parents sometime late Monday night or early Tuesday and has returned home to Bar Harbor.
Tardiff did not have additional details Monday morning.
The missing Sorrento girl, Hanna Snider, 14, has not been located since she disappeared from her home sometime late Saturday night or early Sunday morning, McCausland said Tuesday. He said police suspect Snider may have left home with a man she met online on the Internet dating site myyearbook.com.
McCausland said the Maine State Police computer crimes unit plans to obtain Snider’s school-issued laptop computer from Sumner Memorial High School and to examine it for possible leads. He said he believes Snider is a freshman at the high school in Sullivan.
Information about Snider’s disappearance will be forwarded to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children so it will be available to law enforcement agencies nationwide, according to McCausland.
McCausland said police are looking into the possibility that Snider has left Maine with the man.
“With the Internet, one never knows,” he said.
According to McCausland, Snider’s parents realized she was missing when they could not find her Sunday morning. She sent them a text message on Sunday to tell them she was OK and would be home later. Since then, she has not been heard from and there have been no confirmed sightings, he said Tuesday.
Snider is described as 5 feet, 6 inches tall, weighing approximately 170 pounds. She has brown eyes and dirty blonde hair with a touch of red.
Information posted by the Ellsworth Police Department on its Facebook page indicates that Snider last was seen wearing jeans and a winter jacket with a furry hood.
Anyone with information about where Snider might be is asked to call Maine State Police at 866-2122.
