WILTON — The Wilton Group is hosting two events this week, including introducing the new police chief Thursday and a legislative update on Sunday.
Community members are invited to welcome Chief Heidi Wilcox starting at 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 10, at the Calzolaio Pasta Co. function room. All business owners, community groups, organizations and residents are invited.
Businesses and organizations are asked to bring business cards for a guest book compiled during the event for Chief Wilcox. She plans to visit local businesses and organizations over the next few months, Wilton Group Chairwoman Susan Atwood said.
Sen. Thomas Saviello, R-Wilton, and Rep. Russell Black, R-Wilton, will provide an update on this year’s legislative action during a presentation planned from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 13, also at Calzolaio Pasta Co. The Wilton Group is hosting the event. Legislators will describe how the legislative process works, provide an overview of the 2011 legislative session and outline the 2012 issues.
With a mission to bring the community together and increase awareness of businesses, residents and organizations, the Wilton Group will once again celebrate a Festival of Lights in December. Adorned trees, wreaths and window boxes will highlight Main Street, culminating in a program of caroling and tree display Sunday, Dec. 18.
Community members are welcome to participate by ordering festival trees, memory wreaths and window box wreaths by Nov. 19.
A tree order can be placed by calling Rocky Hill Landscape at 645-5381. The cost is $25. Sponsors may decorate the tree with lights and decorations between Nov. 29 and Dec. 3 for the Dec. 4 lighting of all trees, she said.
Memory wreaths celebrating the memory of a special person will adorn lampposts along Main Street. The wreaths, supplied by Boy Scout Troop 518, have a 24-inch inside diameter, she said. The cost is $40 and these may be ordered by calling Gina Labbee-Balsamo at 645-3037 before Nov. 19.
Downtown window boxes will be decorated with the help of the community. A 10-inch box is $12 or a 14-inch box is $14 with checks made payable to Boy Scout Troop 518. To order, call Ray Jacques at Wilton Hardware, 645-2244.
The Wilton Group works to plan events that promote communication and cooperation among businesses, organizations and residents. It is currently looking for community members who would like to serve on a committee or as a working board member, she said.
