JAY — Voters elected Justin Merrill on Tuesday as the town’s newest selectman.

Merrill, 26, will complete the remaining two years of former Selectman Warren Bryant’s term. Bryant resigned in August.

Merrill, who was uncontested for the seat, said he received an unofficial tally of 1,230 votes for the position.

Merrill is a 2004 graduate of Jay High School and a captain in the Jay Fire-Rescue Department. He also was chairman of the Comprehensive Planning Committee that updated the plan to guide the town into the next 10 years. Voters approved it in June.

Merrill has a degree in diesel truck and heavy equipment, and is employed at the family business, George Merrill and Son Logging LLC in Jay.
