100 years ago, 1911

The employees of the Cushman-Hollis shoe factory are looking forward with much delight to the dedication of the recently built addition to the factory which will take place on Friday evening. Dancing will be enjoyed with music by Hobb’s American Band.

50 years ago, 1961

Daniel J. Pendergast Jr., former Lewiston High School outstanding athlete, has been named vice principal of Gorton Junior High School at Warwick, R. I. He attended Wallace Parochial school here and was graduated from LHS in 1926. He prepared for college at Kents Hill School, and took his Ph. D. degree from Georgetown University in 1932. He also holds a master’s degree in secondary education from Rhode Island College.

Patricia M. McDonough, commissioner of the Maine Department of Labor, has announced employees of Tex-Tech Industries Incorporated of Auburn have been certified as eligible for assistance under the Trade Act of 1974.

The U.S. Department of labor granted certification after an investigation in response to a petition on behalf of the workers at Tex-Tech Industries Incorporated of Auburn, Maine.

The Federal certification allows these workers to apply for special benefits under the Trade Act which includes job search assistance, training, relocation allowances, and additional weeks of unemployment benefits.
