HARRISON — Christmas in Harrison, a three-day holiday celebration, got under way Thursday night with an outdoor nativity pageant at the United Parish Congregational Church on Main Street.
Colorfully costumed characters of all ages were joined at the outdoor creche by donkeys and llamas in the portrayal of the birth of Jesus. Among the participants were Isaac Sylvester as baby Jesus, Brian and Rebecca Sylvester as Joseph and Mary, Joseph and Lydia Sylvester, and Brenda Demers and Gardner Bartlett as shepherds, Allison Gagne as an angel, and Averill Davis, Rob Baker and Bill Melbye as kings.
About 75 people watched the program.
Prior to the Living Nativity, a Soup and Song event was held in the church vestry.
The celebration continues Friday with the arrival of Santa Claus, the Christmas Tree lighting and other festivities. On Saturday, a parade, photos with Santa, breakfasts, a chowder supper, craft and food sales and other events are planned.
