LEWISTON — Auburn police are investigating an assault involving a knife that occurred on Center Street on Tuesday morning, according to a statement from Deputy Chief Jason Moen.

Nancy Vaillancourt, 51, of Lewiston reported she was assaulted by her daughter, Christina Vaillancourt, 31, of Lynn, Mass., during an argument while traveling in her vehicle. Nancy Vaillancourt said she was struck once with a small knife, according to the release.

Nancy Vaillancourt stopped at a local business to report the assault while Christina Vaillancourt left in the vehicle. The younger Vaillancourt was later located by Auburn police on the Maine Turnpike in Lewiston and was taken into custody, Moen said.

“Nancy Vaillancourt was transported to Central Maine Medical Center where she was treated for very minor injuries and released,” the release stated.

Christina Vaillancourt was charged with simple assault and transported to the Androscoggin County Jail where she is being held on $250 cash bail, the deputy chief said.
