AUBURN — The city’s water and sewer districts were recognized Tuesday for participating in a cost-saving employee training program.
Members of the Auburn Water and Sewerage districts were given a Safety and Health Award for Public Employees by Maine Labor Commissioner Robert Winglass.
The award is offered through the state’s SafetyWorks! Program, which is designed to train and monitor employees to reduce job-related injuries, illnesses and deaths.
To qualify, the water and sewer districts’ facilities were inspected and written safety programs, training, and equipment inspections were all reviewed. Employee safety OSHA logs will be reviewed for the next five years to make sure reported injuries in Auburn are lower than those in similar organizations.
Because of the award, the districts get a two-year exemption from the Maine Bureau of Labor Standards scheduled inspections.
