LEWISTON — Jean Hascall Walker, 84, a resident of Welch Avenue, Monmouth, died Wednesday, Dec. 14, at d’Youville Pavilion.

She was born in Monmouth, Dec. 2, 1927, the daughter of Elmer S. and Ruby M. Day Hascall. She was a 1946 graduate of Monmouth Academy, attended Bates College and graduated from the University of Maine in Orono.

On Dec. 2, 1950, in Monmouth, Jean and Robert N. Walker were married; they just celebrated 61 years of marriage on Dec. 2. Jean was a school teacher and taught in the towns of Monmouth and Wales, retiring after teaching 22 years in Wales.

She was a member of OES, Past Worthy Matron, Boynton Chapter, member of the Monmouth Community Church, she sang with the choir and was also the choir director, she played the organ and was also a reporter for the Kennebec Journal newspaper. She enjoyed singing, playing the piano and attending Masonic events with her husband.

She is survived by her husband, Robert N. Walker of Monmouth; her son, David Walker and his wife, Audrey, of Monmouth; her daughter, Norma Sprague of Monmouth; five grandchildren, Amanda Bunker and her husband, Kevin, of Brunswick, Alyson Walker of Seattle, Wash., Jason R. Sprague, Jared Walker, both of Monmouth and James R. Sprague Jr. of El Paso, Texas; and three great-grandchildren, Natalie and Alexandra Bunker and Ethan Burnham.
