Sheriff Lowe’s special liquor squad made two raids Saturday morning. At a place alleged to have been conducted by Thomas McNamara they took away two gills of whiskey, one pint of beer, a jug with two quarts of wine and one jug with two quarts of gin. It is said that the place but recently opened up. At the M. J. Murphy place they seized six bottles with five gills of whiskey each, two bottles with four gills each, one bottle with five gills of gin and two bottles with one quart of wine each.

Lewiston’s Police Athletic League ice skating rinks might be opened to the public today but if they are not ready, Sunday skating is just about assured.
Police Lt. Herve J. Gendreau said last night, as huddled up men were shivering and shaking as they did some more rink flooding, there was a “good possibility” the ice would be in good enough condition to open the rinks this afternoon.
25 years ago, 1986
Even though the town of Madison is roughly 70 miles to the north, Lewiston teachers felt a sense of loss when the town’s high school was gutted by fire Oct. 14.
That feeling has moved local teachers to kick off a fund-raising campaign to help raise money for library books and teaching supplies at Madison. The “Reach Out to Help a Neighbor” effort started Monday and will run through the middle of next week.
