Three members of the Bridgton Hospital staff have received licenses as HAM radio operators. George Gardner, center, Karen Mentus, left, and Paula Cox met for six weeks with a HAM radio instructor to learn about radio operation, safety, radio etiquette, FCC rules, and basic electronics. George Drisko taught the class, which ended in November with the licensing test presented by volunteer examiners. The primary reason Bridgton Hospital staff participated in the course was to provide an additional layer of backup communications for the hospital in the event of a disaster. Gardner serves as head of the Emergency Preparedness Committee at the hospital.
