HARRISON — Recreation Department Director Paula Holt has announced the following winter activities and events for the new year:

* Youth basketball for girls and boys grades 1 through 6 is being held with weekly practices and games on Saturdays through February with round robin playoffs for students in grades five and six.

* Coed teen basketball will be held for adolescents in grades 7 through 11 on Tuesdays from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Harrison Elementary School gym. The schedule will follow the school calendar. There is no cost for the activity.

* Coed adult basketball for adults 18 and older will be held Mondays from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Harrison Elementary School gym. The schedule will follow the school calender. There is no cost for the activity.

* Drumming, Dance and Hoops on Thursday evenings from 6 to 8:30 p.m. at the Community Room. No experience is necessary. Everyone is welcome. Donations are appreciated.

* A Senior Social Potluck and Games event will be held for adults 60 and older on the first Tuesday of each month from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Congregational Church in Harrison. Bring a food dish to share. Dessert, beverages and games are provided.

* There will be a trip to the Maine Red Claws game at 5 p.m. at the Expo in Portland on Sunday, Jan. 22. The cost is $12 per person. The bus leaves the Town Office parking lot at 2:30 p.m. and returns at 8:30 p.m. Call Holt for more details. Everyone is welcome.

* A Super Bowl Skate Fest will be held at the Bridgton Academy rink on Sunday, Feb. 5 from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. There are assorted size skates available. Children under 8 are encouraged to wear a helmet and must be accompanied by an adult. There will be a refreshment table and all Harrison residents are welcome. There is no cost.

* During the February school vacation there will be a day of snow tubing at the Oxford Plains Snow Tubing Park on Monday, Feb. 20 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The bus will leave Town Office parking lot at 9:15 a.m. and returns at 2 p.m. The cost is $16. Town and Tubing release waivers are available at Town Office. Call Holt for more details.

* There will also be sledding at High View Farm on Wed., Feb. 22, from 1 to 4 p.m. Children and families can enjoy three hours of sledding on the big hill located off the Edes Falls Road on the left (2 miles from center of town). Children 8 and under must be accompanied by an adult. Hot cocoa and snacks will be available. Bring your sled and dress according to the weather.

* The Youth and Family Ice Fishing Derby, “Hooked on Fishing Not on Drugs,” will be held at Long Lake on Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 25 and 26. The hours on Saturday are 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Sunday, 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. The event is in partnership with the Department of Inland Fisheries & Wildlife. There will be prizes and raffles and a chance to win a Youth Lifetime Fishing License. Food and warming fire will be available.
