WATERVILLE — Jared Pelletier netted a hat trick in the third period to lead Edward Little to a 5-1 win over Waterville in boys’ hockey action Friday night.

With the scored tied at 1-1 early in the final period, Pelletier banged home a rebound of a Travis Landry shot to give the Red Eddies (2-2-1) the lead for good. Less than two minutes later, Pelletier banked the puck off the skate of Waterville netminder Cody Thibodeau (25 saves) to give the visitors a 3-1 lead. Brendan Dyer would tack on a power play goal which was followed up by Pelletier’s third score to complete the scoring.

Drew Lupardo also tallied for the Red Eddies while Landry dished out three assists. Alan Nelson stopped 30 shots to earn the win in goal. Ben Roy scored the lone goal for the Purple Panthers (0-6).

Basketball

Poland 73, Fryeburg 50

POLAND — Poland dismantled Fryeburg with a 24-point surge in the third period and hit a total of 10 3-pointers for the night as the Knights trampled Fryeburg with a 73-50 victory in a boys’ basketball game Friday night.

The Knights (4-2) hit four of their 10 3-pointers in that third-quarter barrage while holding the winless Raiders (0-6) to just seven points.

Logan Nichols and C.J. Martin each dropped in four 3-pointers apiece and combined for 31 points. Nichols was the playmaker on the court. The senior guard was credited with 10 assists. Teammates Jake Littlefield and Nate Rybeck each scored 15 and 13 points, respectively.

In the first half, Poland easily constructed a 28-22 lead before taking the Raiders to task in the third quarter.

Fryeburg’s Djorje Obradovick scored 17 points and Kevin Knowles dropped in 10.

Bangor 36, EL 32

BANGOR — Senior forward Patrick Stewart posted a game-high 10 points to lead Bangor to a 36-32 victory over Edward Little in KVAC boys’ basketball action Frida.

The Rams (5-1) scored their largest set in the first quarter with 12 points, taking a 12-6 lead, but coughing up that lead for a 16-16 halftime deadlock. Robbie Brookings pitched in with eight points.

The Red Eddies (4-2) battled to keep the contest close, but could not overcome the size and strength of the opposition. Junior forwrd Quinn Leary tallied nine points on four field goals and a free throw in the losing effort.

Forest Hills 61, Buckfield 46

BUCKFIELD — Evan Worster helped ignite a 34-21 run in the second half to help Forest Hills pull away to a 61-46 triumph over Buckfield in an Class D boys’ basketball game Friday.

The Tigers (4-2) led 15-8 after the first quarter, but Buckfield (1-3) used pressure derense to claw their way back and cclosed the gap to 27-25 at the half.

Worster dominated the paint and scored a game-high 29 points, including a pair of 3-pointers. Matt Turner chipped in with 10 points.

Cody Barker led the Bucks with 16 points and 13 rebounds, while Alan Hedrick scored 15 points.

Erskine 58, Oxford Hills 52

SOUTH CHINA— Shyler Scates poured in 18 points and Devin Duncan scored a key bucket late in the game to lift Erskine to a 58-52 boys’ basketball win over Oxford Hills Friday night.

With just over one minute to go in the game, Duncan drove the baseline and his lay up gave the Eagles (4-2) a five-point lead. Scates knocked down three of his four treys and scored 12 points in the second quarter. Duncan finished with 11 points while Tom Grady and Tyler Belanger added 16 and 10 respectively for the home squad.

Ryan Godin was the lone scorer with double figures for the Vikings (1-5). He finished with 11 while leading scorer Josh MacDonald was held to just six points.
