TURNER — Tim Dow scored 11 of his game-high 20 points in the second quarter to help lift Leavitt to an 80-53 victory over Belfast in boys’ basketball action Friday.
The senior guard also sank three 3-pointers for the Hornets (7-2). After a 17-16 edge after the first quarter, Leavitt poured on the points in a 24-10 second quarter to pull away. Sophomore Andrew Middleton tossed in 15 points, while finishing the game with eight rebounds, four assists, and a pair of blocks.
Jordan Hersom also scored 15 points while grabbing 10 rebounds in the win. Tyler Walton paced the offense with 10 assists from the guard position.
Ryan Rice paced Belfast (1-8) with 11 points. Jamie Jackson followed with 10 points in the loss.
EL 66, Brewer 46
AUBRUN — Edward Little outscored Brewer 19-5 in the second quarter to cruise to a 66-46 triumph in boys’ Class A basketball Friday.
Taking an 18-13 lead into the second quarter, the Red Eddies (5-3) used their transition game and tight defense in the decisive second quarter to extend their lead to 37-18 at the half.
EL’s Sean Ford led all scorers with 20 points, including four from behind the arc. The junior guard also added 12 rebounds. Omar Haji-Hersi followed with 15 points and eight boards. Quin Leary chipped in with 16 points in the victory.
Mike Ogbonna paced Brewer (2-6) with 12 points. Yuhi Sasaki and Matt Cuskelly each tossed in nine points for the Witches.
Greenville 70, Rangeley 39
GREENVILLE — Greenville used a 25-6 third quarter to pull away for a 70-39 victory over Rangeley in boys’ basketball.
Greenville took the lead early and never looked back, opening a 30-16 cushion at the half.
Howard Hershey led all scorers with 17 points for the host Lakers (6-1). Tristan Richards followed with 14 points and Matt DiAngelo chipped in with 13 in the victory.
Rangeley (4-4) was led by Eric White’s 14 points. Kyle Haley added 11 points in the loss.
Brunswick 59, Mt. Blue 56
BRUNSWICK — Mitch Black launched five 3-pointers, pulled down six rebounds and was credited with six assists, and Brunswick held Mt. Blue to seven points in the deciding fourth quarter to sidestep Mt. Blue, 59-56, in a boys’ basketball game Friday night.
The Dragons held a 32-30 lead at halftime. Ryan Black scored 13 points and Brad Smith added 12 for Brunswick.
Mt. Blue’s Steve Yardley put up 13 points and teammate Nick Hilton added 12. Cam Abbott made good on 11 points.
Vinalhaven 64, Buckfield 46
BUCKFIELD — Brian Stanley piled up 20 points and Dillon Ames added 16 as Vinalhave overran Buckfield with a 64-46 victory in a boys’ basketball game Friday night.
The Bucks (1-5) led at the half with a 26-23 lead before coming undone in the third quarter. Buckfield mustered only eight points.
Alan Hedrick and Austin Dooley combined for 33 points for Buckfield.
Vinalhaven put the pedal down in the fourth quarter and punched in 25 points. Steven Osgood had 10 points
Hebron 67, Dexter 39
BROOKLINE, Mass. — Xavier Bernard and Dennis Ross combined for 36 points to power Hebron to a 67-39 triumph over Dexter School in boys’ basketball action Friday.
Shaquille Cezont-Holmes and Mario Onoh pitched in with double-digit scoring for the Lumberjacks as well. Cezont-Holmes had 11 points, while Onoh tallied 10 points.
Evan Kidd, Jeremy Remy, Royce Finley and Corrie van Haasteren rounded out the scoring.
Dirigo 88, Mt. Abram 23
DIXFIELD — Senior center Cody St. Germain provided a blizzard of points with 25 as Dirigo crushed Mt. Abram 88-23 in MVC boys’ basketball action Friday.
The Cougars (8-0) lept out to a 19-0 lead and closed the half with a 53-10 margin. Josh Turbide posted 17 pointson seven field goals, including three from 3-point range.
Ben Holmes chipped in with 12 points for Dirigo.
Senior center Tyler Hupper was the leading scorer for the Roadrunners (2-5) with eight points on three field goals and a pair of free throws in the losing effort.
Cape Elizabeth 61, Poland 49
CAPE ELIZABETH — Junior guard Henry Babcock garnered a game-high 22 points to lift Cape Elizabeth past Poland 61-49 in WMC boys’ basketball.
The Capers (5-3) secured a little cushion in the third quarter, outpacing the Knights (5-3) by eight points for a 13-point margin. Sam Donnelly and Rob West pitched in with 11 and 10 points, respectively.
Senior guard Ricky Bryant led the Knights with 20 pionts, while Logan Nichols drained 10 points from the foul line to go with three field goals for 17 points in the losing effort.
Mt. View 74, Oak Hill 41
WALES — Mt. View got scoring production from 12 players in a balanced attack as the Panthers rolled to a 74-41 victory over Oak Hill.
Mt. View (3-6) led 19-10, 33-20 and 53-28 at the quarter breaks.
Ryan St. Claire was one of two players to reach double digits with 14 points. Parker Asselin scored a game-high 17 points to lead Oak Hill. Sam Morin chipped in with 12 points.
Hockey
Lewiston 2, Bangor 0
BANGOR — Junior goalie Brian Wigant stopped all 27 shots he faced as Lewiston blanked Bangor 2-0 in Class A hockey action.
The Blue Devils used fine puck play in handing Bangor their first loss of the season.
Kyle Lemelin scored the game’s first score at the 13:35 mark of the first period with assists by Devon Beland and Patrick Deblois. David Cousins added an insurance goal 10 minutes into the second period for Lewiston (2-3) on an assist from Jake Bergeron and Brett Vallee.
Bangor’s (7-1) Chris Howatt turned away 29 of the 31 Lewiston shots he faced in the loss.
