POLAND — Michaella Arsenault recorded a double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds to lead Poland to a 43-34 victory over Cape Elizabeth in WMC girls’ basketball action Saturday.
Junior guard Brittina Maheux scored 12 points for the Knights (2-6). Poland stepped up the tempo in the second half, posting 28 points in the stanza.
Junior guard Emma O’Rourke notched a game-high 13 points for the Capers (2-6), while Kayla Raftice chipped in with 11 in the losing effort.
Monmouth 37, Carrabec 35
NORTH ANSON — Kristine Kahl piled up the game-high 20 points and directed Monmouth Academy to a 37-35 victory over stubborn Carrabec in a girls’ basketball game Saturday.
The Mustangs led 19-11 at the half and held the Cobras to just nine points in third quarter.
Carrabec’s Jocelyn Jackson scored 11 points to help keep the Cobras in contention.
Vinalhaven 38, Buckfield 17
BUCKFIELD — Blake Reidy netted a team-leading eight points in a balanced attack as Vinalhaven sailed to a 38-17 victory over Buckfield in EWC girls’ basketball action Saturday.
The Vikings (7-2) rocketed to a 30-9 halftime lead, before slowing the pace in the second half.
Senior Caitlin Henderson collected more than half of the Bucks’ (2-7) total points with four field goals and a pair of free throws.
Madison 45, Lisbon 39
LISBON — Junior guard Sam Bruce posted a game-high 13 points to lead Madison to a 45-39 triumph over Lisbon in MVC girls’ basketball action Saturday.
The Greyhounds (3-5) trailed by just one at the half. Senior forward Jessica Campbell hit five free throws along with two field goals for nine points. Denise Thomas collected 11 rebounds to go along with her nine points.
The Bulldogs (8-0) engaged Lisbon in a fast paced up and down game. Lyndsay Weese contributed 10 points for Madison in the winning effort.
Spruce Mountain 36, Dirigo 23
DIXFIELD — Spruce Mountain’s unrelenting defense held Dirigo (5-4) to just six points the entire first half as the Phoenix took flight and dropped Dirigo with a 36-23 victory in a girls’ basketball game.
The undefeated Phoenix (9-0) led 19-6 at the half before Dirigo made a run at them and scored 10 points in the third quarter.
Kathryn Ventrella threw in the game-high 15 points and hit three 3pointers. For Dirigo, Maranda Shurtleff scored seven points.
Girls’ hockey
Leavitt/EL 6, Yarmouth 3
AUBURN — Danica Nadeau scored three goals in the third period to help Leavitt/EL pull away for a 6-3 triumph over Yarmouth in a high school hockey game Saturday.
With the game tid 1-1, The Red Hornets took the lead for good in the second period on two goals by Kayla Royer. Also scoring for Leavitt/EL was Sabrina Lapointe. Tori Sanford recorded the win in goal for Leavitt/EL.
Lewiston 8, Winslow 1
LEWISTON — Mikaela Brown and Erica Lemieux scored three goals apiece to lead Lewiston to an 8-1 triumph over Winslow in a girls’ hockey game Saturday.
The Blue Devils scored the game’s first five goals before Winslow fianlly got on the scoreboard.
Lemieux chipped in with a pair of assists, while Brown had one. Also scoring goals for Lewistobn were Mikaela St. Laurent and Makaela Field.
Jenn Poulin scored Winslow’s lone goal. Jessica Cain was the goalie. Paige Fontaine was the goalie for Lewiston.
Hebron 5, Pingree 1
HEBRON — Five different players scored as Hebron skated to a 5-1 victory over Pingree in girls’ hockey action.
Katie Couture got the puck moving with a conversion from Ally Strachan at 2:59 of the first period.
The Lumberjacks scored three unanswered goals in the first period. Taylor Fowler netted the second tally and assisted on the third.
Leah Heinze scored the lone second half goal, cutting the deficit to two for Pingree.
Boys’ hockey
Hebron 5, Cushing 4 (OT)
HEBRON — Hebron came back from an early four goal deficit to pluck a 5-4 overtime victory from Cushing in boys’ hockey action Saturday.
Following a couple of power-play goals, a short-handed goal and another, Zach Miller converted a relay from Olivier Knight-Rouleau to put Hebron on the board at 13:20 of the first period.
Reilly Fallon and Knight-Rouleau netted unanswered goals in the second period for the Lumberjacks. Alex Alexandrov found the back of the net only 30 seconds into the third frame to tie the contest at 4-4, where it remained through regulation.
Nico Manganiello netted an unassisted tally 1:08 into the overtime frame to secure the win for Hebron.
