100 years ago, 1912

A new band has been formed in Auburn which is to be known as the Shoe Workers Band. It meets for practice in the rooms of the Veteran Firemen’s Association. There are fifteen pieces at present and more will be added. W. Abbott is secretary and V. Adams is treasurer.

50 years ago, 1962

Two department promotions and a transfer were announced last night by the Lewiston Police Commission.

The changes were brought about by the recent resignation of Lt. Fred Soucy to join the county CD staff. Promoted were Det. Sgt. Laurier Morin to lieutenant and Patrolman Lucien H. Longtin to sergeant. Sgt. Gerald Gilbert will be transferred to a post in the Detective Bureau, filling a vacancy created by Morin’s promotion.

25 years ago, 1987

Employers of teen-agers in the Twin Cities are being asked to help reduce Auburn’s 25 percent student dropout rate.

Auburn Schools Superintendent Roy D. Loux said Thursday that businessmen and manufacturers have been invited to explore the situation in a meeting Wednesday in the Chamberlain School.

“We will discuss how we can work together,” Loux said.
