LEWISTON — The second workshop in the New Farmer Workshop Series, “Crop Management,” will be held Tuesday, Feb. 7, at the USDA Service Center, 254 Goddard Road.
Registration will begin at 5:45 p.m. Topics will cover marketing potential for vegetables and small fruit, management considerations for silage, forage and pasture, soil testing and amendments, value of pollinators and applicable programs for crop growers.
The series is being held every Tuesday ending March 13. In case of a storm requiring cancellation, the workshop will be held the next day at the same time.
The Androscoggin Valley Soil and Water Conservation District has received funding for the series from USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service. The district is partnering with the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service, University of Maine Cooperative Extension, Maine Department of Agriculture and Maine Department of Conservation to conduct the series.
To attend the “Crop Management” workshop only, the cost is $10 a person, and registration must be received by Tuesday, Jan. 31. Preregistration is required. Anyone who has special needs should contact Jane Heikkinen at 753-9400, ext. 400.
