NEWPORT — Senior forward Jordan Hersom not only collected a double-double, but earned his 1,000th career point on a fourth-quarter layup as Leavitt buzzed their way to a 56-47 triumph over Nokomis in KVAC boys’ basketball action Tuesday.

Hersom posted 20 points and 14 rebounds for the Hornets (10-3), while Andrew Middleton also grabbed a double-double with 16 points and 16 rebounds.

Middleton iced the game down the stretch, going 6-of-7 from the charity stripe.

Junior forward Andrew Cartwright recorded a team-high 15 points on seven field goals, including one from three-point range for Nokomis.

Bucfield 48, Rangeley 31

BUCKFIELD — Senior guard Austin Dooley dropped in a game-high 26 points to lead Buckfield to a 48-31 victory over Rangeley in EWC boys’ basketball action Tuesday.

The Bucks (3-9) went on a 12-4 run in the second quarter for a 22-14 halftime lead. Alan Hedrick recorded a team-leading 10 rebounds for Buckfield.

The Lakers (4-8) shortened the deficit in the opening minutes of the third quarter. But Buckfield out pressed Rangeley to extend the lead over the next one and a half quarters to secure the win.

Telstar 69, Lisbon 35

BETHEL — Senior guard Danny Whitney nearly had a triple-double with 19 points, 10 assists, six steals and eight rebounds as Telstar sailed to a 69-35 victory over Lisbon in MVC boys’ basketball action Tuesday.

The Rebels (6-7) got going early with a 23-10 in the first quarter and improved to a 43-22 lead at the half.

Nick Mills contributed 16 points on six field goals and four free throws for Telstar. Guard Tucker Brannon paced the Greyhounds (1-12) with a team-leading 12 points.

Mt. Blue 59, Brewer 56

FARMINGTON — Senior center Cam Sennick pocketed 24 points to lead Mt. Blue to an exciting 59-56 victory over Brewer in KVAC boys’ basketball action Tuesday.

The teams were knotted at 56 in the late going when Eric Berry sank a layup and was fouled with 15 seconds remaining. Berry put the Cougars (10-3) up by three on the ensuing free throw.

Sophomore guard Brendan Newcomb, who had a team-leading 19 points for the Witches (5-8), missed a three-point attempt at the final buzzer.

Nick Hilton contributed to the Mt. Blue victory with 10 points.

Mt. Ararat 44,

Oxford Hills 39

TOPSHAM — Josh Wright and Ted Cole scored 14 and 13 points, respectively, to lead Mt. Ararat to its first win of the season, a 44-39 victory over Oxford Hills in boys’ basketball action Tuesday.

The Eagles (1-12) sank 8-of-11 from the charity stripe in the fourth quarter to help secure the win.

Mt. Ararat held Josh McDonald to three points, and mixed up the defense throughout the contest.

Deric Hanscom tossed a team-leading nine points for the Vikings (4-9).

Lewiston 60, Erskine 47

LEWISTON — Steven Patrie led three players in double figures for Lewiston with 13 to lead the Blue Devils to a 60-47 victory over Erskine Academy in KVAC basketball action Tuesday.

Luke Cote and Donne Agossou chipped in with 11 each for Lewiston (10-3).

Tom Grady led all scorers in the game with 18 points, including four from beyond the arc, for the Eagles (5-8).

Mountain Valley 56,

Mt. Abram 29

RUMFORD — Ryan Nicols dropped in 16 points and Jacob Theriault added another 10 as the Mountain Valley Falcons tossed in nine 3-pointers and beat Mt. Abram, 56-29, in a boys’ basketball game Tuesday night.

Theriault also collected 10 rebounds, dished out six assists and stole the ball five times for the Falcons (7-5). Teammate Andrew Child scored five points and pulled down 11 rebounds.

Greely 53, Gray-NG 40

GRAY — Greely used a 15-6 run in the final frame to pull out a 53-40 win over Gray-New Gloucester in WMC boys’ basketball action Tuesday.

Michael McDevitt led the Rangers with 15 points, while Connor Hanley chipped in with 10.

The Patriots (2-11) were paced by Sean Sedjco with a solid 14-point effort, while Spencer Harriman and Brandon Thibeault each added seven.

Dirigo 82, Wiscasset 67

WISCASSET— After sprinting out to a 22-12 advantage in the first frame, Dirigo went into high gear and raced away to a 82-67 victory over Wiscasset in an MVC boys’ tilt Tuesday evening.

Cody St. Germain led the undefeated Cougars (13-0) with 28 points and 13 rebounds, while Ben Holmes tallied 16 points and Caleb Turner added 12.

The Redskins (7-6) were paced by Jordan Jones with a solid 22-point effort, while Caleb Bryant chipped in with 18.

EL 65, Cony 56

AUGUSTA — Edward Little cranked up the pace and used a 22-11 third quarter run to pull away from Cony and hung on to post a 65-56 victory Tuesday in a KVAC boys’ tilt.

Quinn Leary led the Red Eddies (8-5) with 28 points, while Ian Therriault added 11.

The Rams (4-9) were paced by Walker Cooper with 16 points, while Josiah Hayward tallied 15 and Zach Lachance added 12.
