JAY — Kathryn Ventrella wasted little time in overpowering her opponent Tuesday, pouring in 19 points in the first half and leading Spruce Mountain to a 56-40 victory over Boothbay.

Ventrella finished with a game-high 21 points to lead the Phoenix (12-1), adding seven rebounds and four assists.

Alexi Deering chipped in with 11 points and eight rebounds, while Emily Keene added 12 points.

The Seahawks (8-4) were paced by 6-foot forward Megan Smith with a solid 17-point effort, while Alex Clarke added 13.

Rangeley 73, Buckfield 34

BUCKFIELD — Rangeley revved up its offense for a 20-9 run in the third quarter and pulled away with a 73-34 romp over Buckfield in a EWC girls’ basketball tilt Tuesday.

Freshman sensation Taylor Esty led the mighty Lakers (13-1) with 24 points, while Jenney Abbott tallied 15 and Emily Carrier added 11 in a well-balanced attack.

Kaitlyn Rines led the Bucks (3-11) with a solid 11-point performance, while Caitlin Henderson chipped in with 10 and Danielle Patrie added nine.

Greely 53, Gray-NG 44

GRAY — Greely survived a late-game rally by Gray-New Gloucester and hung on for a 53-44 victory in WMC girls’ action Thursday.

Freshman Ashley Storey led the Rangers (10-3) with 20 points, while her sister, Jacklyn, chipped in with 13. Courtney Nielson also contributed with 11 points in a well-balanced attack.

The Patriots (6-7) were paced by Maria Valente with a solid 17-point performance, while Haylee Cote added nine.

St. Dom’s 32, Monmouth 29

AUBURN — Allison Conley sparked a 10-4 third-quarter rally for St. Dom’s as they rolled to a 32-29 win over Monmouth in girls’ basketball action Tuesday.

Conley finished with 11 points for the Saints (4-9), including six in that key third stanza. McKenzie Roy chipped in with eight points, while veteran Mary Caron added seven.

Dirigo 43, Wiscasset 28

WISCASSET — After jumping out to a commanding 16-8 point lead in the first frame, Dirigo raced away to post a 43-28 win over Wiscasset in MVC girls’ action Tuesday.

Alyssa Wade led the Cougars (8-6) with 18 points, while Miranda Shurtleff chipped in with nine.

The Redskins were paced by Briana Goud with 10 points, while Kayla Connors added eight.

Mt. Ararat 57,

Oxford Hills 37

TOPSHAM — Caitlyn LaFountain notched a team-high 13 points in a balanced attack as Mt. Ararat sailed to a 57-37 victory over Oxford Hills in girls’ basketball action Tuesday.

The Eagles jumped out to a 21-12 lead in the first quarter. Mallory Nelson contributed 12 points, while Leah Hitchcock added 10 points for Mt. Ararat.

Abbie Eastman provided most of the Viking muscle with a game-high 16 points.

Gardiner 55, Oak Hill 42

WALES — Kelly Maycomber scored 11 points and pulled down 14 rebounds as Gardiner dispatched Oak Hill with a 55-42 victory in a girls’ basketball game Tuesday night.

The Tigers took a 24-13 lead in the first half. Jenna Moore scored 11 points for Gardiner.

For Oak Hill (4-9), Darby Beaulieu scored 14 points.
