RUMFORD — Jacob Therriault ignited a 14-7 run in the third quarter that sent Mountain Valley to a 55-36 victory over Lisbon in MVC boys’ basketball action Wednesday.

Therriault scored eight of his 23 points in that key third frame, and his tally included four shots from beyond the arc. Ryan Nicols chipped in for the Falcons (8-5) with 11 points.

The struggling Greyhounds (1-13) were paced by Tucker Brannon with a fine 15-point performance, while Jacob Bremmer chipped in with 12.

Spruce Mountain 63, Madison 41

JAY — After pacing themselves while building a conservative 28-19 lead in the first half, Spruce Mountain pulled the trigger for a 20-9 run in the third frame and raced away to post a 63-41 victory over Madison.

Jake Bessey led the Phoenix (13-1) with 17 points, while James Barker added nine points and pulled down 12 rebounds. Nate Shink also contributed with nine points and eight rebounds in a balanced attack.

The Bulldogs (6-7) were paced by Austin Kane with a solid 14-point effort, while Steve Lawrence chipped in with eight points.

Boys’ hockey

Lewiston 1, Biddeford 1

BIDDEFORD — Patrick DeBlois’ first-period goal was the only shot the Blue Devils could get past goalie Jon Fields in a 1-1 tie with Biddeford on Wednesday in a Class A boys’ hockey game.

Fields frustrated the Blue Devils (7-3-1) by stopping 36 of 37 shots. DeBlois scored on a power play at 7:47 of the opening stanza on a pass from Devon Beland.

Lewiston hung on to the 1-0 lead until Biddeford (3-5-2) finally got on the scoreboard on a goal by Matt McQuirk at 4:10 of the final period.

Evan Bourassa had 19 saves in goal for Lewiston.

Yarmouth 7, Leavitt 1

TURNER — Alex Kurtz netted five goals Wednesday as Yarmouth hustled to a 7-1 victory over Leavitt in a Class B boys’ hockey tilt Wednesday.

Kurtz found the net three times in the first period, as Yarmouth jumped out to a 5-1 advantage. Max Watson and Conner Lainey also tallied to complete the scoring. Pat McLoon made 25 saves to notch the win.

The Hornets (4-8) received their lone goal from Ellis Lamothe in the first period. Nick Allen handled netkeeping chores for the Hornets.

Mountain Valley 63, Lisbon 28

RUMFORD — Ayla Allen piled up 27 points and pulled down 13 rebounds as Mountain Valley sidestepped Lisbon, 63-28, in a girls’ basketball game Wednesday night.

Mountain Valley’s defense held the Greyhounds (5-7) to single-digit scoring all four quarters. The Falcons’ Makayla White dropped in four 3-pointers for 12 points.

The Falcons (9-5) took a commanding 28-12 lead at halftime.

Bailey Madore led Lisbon with 10 points.

Poland 63, Freeport 49

POLAND — Brittina Maheux led a trio of players in double figures Wednesday as Poland hustled to a 63-49 victory over Freeport in a WMC girls’ basketball tilt.

Maheux led the Knights (5-8) with 16 points, while Katrina Seeley tallied 15 and Michaella Arsenault added 11.

Freeport (5-8) was paced by Nina Davenport with 26 points, 13 of which came at the free throw line. Leigh Wyman also contributed with nine points.

Girls’ hockey

Lewiston 3, Winslow 1

WINSLOW — Mikaela Brown netted a pair of goals in the opening period Wednesday as Lewiston skated to a 3-1 victory over Winslow in a KVAC girls’ hockey matchup.

Brown gave the Blue Devils (7-7-1) a 1-0 advantage at the 3:36 mark with assists from Erica Lemieux and Ashley Chase. She added an insurance goal just four minutes later to make it a 2-0 contest.

Brittany Whitaker answered for Winslow in the second period with an assist from Brennah O’Connell. Sam Cote’s unassisted goal in the third stanza completed the scoring for Lewiston.

Paige Fontaine made five saves for Lewiston, while Jessica Cain turned aside 25 shots for Winslow.

EL/Leavitt 4, Greely 3

FALMOUTH — Taylor Landry found the net with just 42 seconds left in regulation to lift EL/Leavitt to a 4-3 triumph over Greely in girls’ hockey action Wednesday.

Landry led the Red Hornets with three goals, while Emma Martineau also tallied to complete the scoring. Tori Sanford made 30 saves to notch the win.

Mary Morrison, Paige Tuller and Chelsea Andrews were credited with goals for Greely, while Emma Seymour handled goalkeeping duties.
