100 years ago, 1912

At an enthusiastic meeting of the Lewiston and Auburn Driving Club last evening, it was decided to hold a two day racing carnival in February and to hold three races on each day. For the first time in the history of Maine ice races, two purses of $100 each are offered.

50 years ago, 1962

Lewiston Schools Supt. J. Weldon Russell will discuss education plans for the next year, the new junior high school, and the school budget picture in an address next week before the Lewiston City Parent-Teacher Association. John Kivus, PTA president, reported this will be “an important meeting” to which all parents and teachers are invited.

25 years ago, 1987

Richard Courtemanche, Lewiston, Modern Woodmen of America district manager, has earned membership in that organization’s 1987 District Manager Round Table.

The distinction recognizes outstanding leadership and is based on high achievement in life insurance sales.

In 1986, 39 Modern Woodmen district managers nationwide qualified as members of the District Manager Round Table.
