Free tax prep
MEXICO — Oxford County Ca$h Coalition is sponsoring free tax preparation at Region 9 Adult Education until the end of March. This program is for families with less than $50,000 in income who need help filing their taxes.
All volunteer preparers have been trained by the IRS and will complete taxes for no cost. The program is sponsored by the United Way of Oxford County, Community Concepts, the Annie Casey Foundation, Key Bank and Region 9 Adult Education. Call 491-7475 to make an appointment.
Kindergarten sign-up
OTISFIELD — Otisfield residents who have a child who will be five years old by Oct. 15 should call Maureen for registration information and to schedule a screening appointment. Otisfield Community School’s kindergarten screening will be held on May 17; call soon, 627-4208 or 627-4144.
AARP meeting
PARIS — The Oxford Hills Chapter of AARP will meet on Monday, March 12, at the First Congregational Church on E. Main Street, South Paris. Lunch will be served at noon and reservations are required by calling Ruth at 744-9069 by Friday, March 9. The menu will feature macaroni and cheese. The cost is $6.50. Attendees are reminded of the pledge to bring something for the Food Pantry monthly.
The business meeting will begin at 1 p.m. This will be followed by a representative from Western Maine Transportation with some helpful information.
Bean, casserole supper
FARMINGTON — A baked bean and casserole supper will be held from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Saturday, March 10, at Trinity United Methodist Church.
Texas hold ’em
RUMFORD — American Legion Post 24 will hold a Maine Texas Hold ‘Em Tournament on Saturday, March 10. Registration starts at 9, games start at 10. Buy in $50. Lunch will be served from noon to 12:30, cost is $6.
VFW breakfast
HARRISON — The Harrison VFW on The Waterford Road will hold its popular public breakfast from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. Sunday, March 11, at the post on Route 35. The breakfast features scrambled eggs, French toast, pancakes, biscuits and country gravy, bacon, sausage, home fries, fruit cup, sweet breads, orange juice and beverage. Donations will be accepted.
Salmon pie
RUMFORD — St. Barnabas Episcopal Church will hold their annual salmon pie lunches this year on March 16, 23 and 30 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The menu will include salmon pie with egg sauce, vegetable, cole slaw, rolls, beverage and dessert. The price is $8. Take outs are available either by calling ahead to 364-2193 or by ordering at the door.
