Lt. Louis Morin, second from right, a 33-year veteran of the Lewiston Fire Department, retired Feb. 29. He began his career in November 1978, and was promoted to lieutenant in 1993. His first fire was at Quinco Fabrics, where, unknown to him, the owner would become his brother-in-law. He helped outfit the department with new exercise equipment for each station. He was one of four certified peer fitness trainers who conducted yearly evaluations and who offered their services to anyone wanting personal fitness training. Morin observed that a lot has changed since he joined, including downsizing from eight to five trucks, and closing a station. Also noted were fewer injuries due to safer practices, better firetrucks and no smoking, and a fitness program. Morin lives in Greene and has two sons. With Morin are, from left, Pvt. Bill Hunt, Pvt. Reggie Poirier, Morin, and Pvt. Alan Hodgkins.
