OXFORD — A fundraiser is planned March 31 to benefit a Waterford woman battling breast cancer.

Terri McGray Wakefield, 57, is the mother of five and grandmother of 11. She was diagnosed with breast cancer in August just about eight months after she moved back to the Oxford Hills from Arizona, where she had been residing for several years. She had previously lived in Oxford and still attends the Oxford Advent Christian Church.

“She is currently staying at the Arbor House in Lewiston, across the street from CMMC,” said her daughter, Heather Bossie. “They have allowed her to stay there during radiation so she didn’t have to drive to Lewiston every day in the winter weather. She is anxiously awaiting her being able to return home, which will hopefully happen on March 31st as well.”

Wakefield finished her chemotherapy and is now undergoing radiation treatment five days a week at the Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston. But with mounting medical bills that insurance either did not cover or only covered partially, Bossie said her family is reaching out to help their mother pay the bills.

Bossie said Wakefield works from home as a quality assurance specialist for a medical transcription company and loves to read and socialize with family and friends and to cook and bake. She owned a business called Simply Boofins when she resided in Oxford about five or six years ago.

Bossie said if people want to send a check, the Oxford Advent Christian Church is accepting donations on her behalf. They may send them to Oxford Advent Christian Church, 1130 Main St., Oxford, ME 04270
