BANGOR, Maine — There were still 15 minutes left before the doors opened for business Friday morning, but about 20 customers were already waiting patiently at the entrance to Hollywood Casino Hotel & Raceway.
It was opening day for table games at the Bangor casino, the state’s first, and numerous people came to play despite it being midmorning on a weekday. The facility had been slots-only until Friday.
In all, almost 50 people streamed in at 8 a.m. and the number swelled to about 75-80 — 80 percent capacity — at the 14 table games between 9 and 10 a.m.
“I was very pleased with the number of people waiting, both in the entrance in front of the Epic Buffet and the casino lobby,” said John Osborne, vice president and general manager of Hollywood Casino. “Within a half hour, customers were seated and playing.
“The tables filled up quickly. When you’re at 50 percent capacity at 8:20 in the morning, it’s a great start to the weekend.”
Osborne and other casino officials are forecasting that they will be at 100 percent capacity sometime today — 102 players filling all the seats available at the tables including roulette (one), blackjack (six), four-card (one) and three-card (two) poker, and Texas Hold ’Em (four).
