POLAND — The RSU 16 committee held a special closed-door session Monday at the district’s Central Office to discuss personnel issues.
At the conclusion of the three-hour meeting, Chairman Mary Ella Jones said the committee had taken no action and had no statement to make.
Jones had said that she could not officially comment on whether the session dealt with the board’s decision Feb. 27 to place Superintendent Dennis Duquette and Business Manager Rick Kusturin on leaves of absence.
On Feb. 29 the committee hired J. Michael Wilhelm to serve as interim superintendent. He began work March 5. Wilhelm fills the immediate loss of leadership, which came just as the committee was in the final stages of assembling next year’s budget, with townspeople set to get their first look at a proposed budget Wednesday, April 11.
Jones had said that the committee would be meeting with Bruce Smith of the Portland law firm of Drummond Woodsum, who was hired by the committee to review RSU 16 management.
