LEWISTON — YWCA of Central Maine will hold Earth Camp during April vacation, April 16-20. This year’s theme is “Let’s get muddy!”

Through a variety of hands-on activities campers in grades K-6 will investigate the natural environment and its ecosystem. Learn how worms are used to break down food scraps into valuable compost to grow plants. Worm “condos” will be made and each camper will bring home the condos to watch the worms in action.

The group will be visited by a beekeeper and learn the importance of bees to the food supply. A kit supplied by the Children’s Museum of Maine and the Maine State Planning Office will teach the importance of recycling and solid waste management. Campers will make their own recycled paper, make an earth bowl, dig for worms and, weather permitted, dance in the rain and take a puddle walk.

“Let’s Get Muddy!” campers will need to bring a change of clothes daily. Swimming and playing on the Magic YWorld everyday is included.

Camp will take place at the YWCA, 130 East Ave, from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. each day. Cost is $138 for the week.

Space is limited. To reserve a spot, call 795-4050 or email [email protected].
