RUMFORD — Selectmen approved bids for oil-based traffic paint and two new fuel storage tanks for Public Works on Thursday night, but tabled placing six tax-acquired properties out to bid.
Of the two bids received for 200 gallons of white paint, 90 gallons of yellow paint, 55 gallons of acetone and 100 gallons of glass beads, Sherwin Williams got the nod at $3,910.75, Town Manager Carlo Puiia said Friday.
The other bid was $4,515 from Aubuchon Hardware.
Three bids were received to replace oil tanks with two new 330-gallon double-bottom ones with leak detection and new legs, flanges, tank firematic and fuel filter, along with a new combination vent alarm and gauge to conform to proper codes.
Puiia said the Public Works fuel tank was leaking and needed to be replaced.
Selectmen OK’d a bid of $3,502 from Community Energy. The other two bids were $3,886.50 from Fabian Oil and $5,531.68 from Specialty Services.
The tax-acquired properties are multifamily buildings at 426 Waldo St., 51 Falmouth St., and 134 Penobscot St.; a half duplex at 24 Erchles St., a single-family house at 8 Franklin St., and a section of land on Kennebec Street that has no road access.
Puiia said the board dealt with some of the properties, recommending that they be torn down by the town crew, then tabled action to further review the properties.
There are another five tax-acquired properties that will have to be dealt with also.
The Finance Committee will meet today and Wednesday.
Also as of Friday, seven people have taken out papers for municipal offices. They are: Marcia Chaisson, incumbent RSU 10 director; for tax collector, Jeremy Vashaw, incumbent Tom Bourret, Cynthia Kelley, and Deborah Giroux; and for selectmen, Kevin Saisi and incumbent Greg Buccina.
