Chief Barry Moores says the couple got a call this week from a man purporting to be their grandson saying he had accidentally bumped into someone on the street and caused him to fall down. He said he was in court and was being asked to pay money. He asked them to not tell his parents.

Another man got on the phone and said he was their grandson’s lawyer, then asked for $2,100 .

The grandparents agreed to send the money by Western Union, only to learn afterward they’d been duped.

Moores tells the Morning Sentinel (http://bit.ly/HEUnBC ) that once the money is sent, there is little police can do.
