LEWISTON — Bates extended its winning streak to seven games by sweeping a doubleheader against the University of Southern Maine in college softball action Tuesday.
The Bobcats won, 11-1, in an 8-run rule-shortened Game 1 before taking Game 2 by an 8-1 score.
The Bobcats (12-6) got two-run homers from Lauren Dobish and AnnaMarie Martino in Game 1. Martino went 3-for-3 with an RBi and three runs scored in Game 2. Kelsey Freedman limited the Huskies (3-25) to one run on three hits in five innings.
Polar Bears sweep Beavers
FARMINGTON — Bowdoin College swept the University of Maine at Farmington, 13-5 and 9-1, in college softball action. The Polar Bears (22-10) broke a 4-4 stalemate in Game 1 with three runs in the sixth. They capped the sweep with a triple play to end Game 2.
Baseball
Bates 20, Curry 7
LEWISTON — Bates pelted Curry College pitching for 19 hits for a 20-7 victory in college baseball ac tion.
Seven players had multiple hits for Bates (15-12), led by three apiece from Kevin McGregor and Ryan Sonberg. Griff Tewksbury had a two-run homer.
Women’s lacrosse
Tufts 14, Bates 8
MEDFORD, Mass. — Gabby Horner matched a career high with five goals to lead Tufts to a 14-8 victory over Bates in college women’s lacrosse action.
Kerry Eaton added three goals for Tufts (8-4). Joan O’Neill led Bates (6-6) with three goals.
Men’s lacrosse
Tufts 16, Bates 11
LEWISTON — Tufts increased a 9-8 third-quarter lead to 12-8 in a span of 67 seconds and pulled away from Bates for a 16-11 victory in men’s lacrosse action.
Kevin McCormick scored four goals for the Jumbos (11-2). Dan Hines and Jack Strain led the Bobcats (4-7) with three goals apiece.
