AUGUSTA — Lewiston attorney Jodi Nofsinger was sworn in as president of the Maine Trial Lawyers Association recently.

The MTLA’s new slate of officers includes Lewiston attorney Michael Welch as secretary. The new officers took their new positions during the association’s annual meeting in Freeport in late March. They serve one-year terms.

Nofsinger joined Berman & Simmons in 1997 and is a partner in the firm. She represents clients in personal injury and medical malpractice cases. She obtained a bachelor of science degree in biology at the University of Illinois and graduated from the University of Maine School of Law in 1996.

She is listed in the Best Lawyers in America for medical malpractice, Chambers & Partners, and Superlawyers. She serves as a board member of the ACLU of Maine, coaches Mock Trial for Lewiston High School, and is a member of the Civil Rules Committee. She has been on the Board of Governors for the Maine Trial Lawyers Association since 2005.

Welch has practiced personal injury law for the past 25 years. He earned a bachelor of science degree in business administration from Northeastern University with highest honors in 1979 and graduated from Northeastern University School of Law in 1985.

Welch has served on the board of the Maine Trial Lawyers Association since 2007. He is active in the community, involved with youth sports and serves as a board member for Advocates for Children. He is also active in Maine’s high school mock trial competition.
