BATH — Oak Hill erupted for six runs in the third inning to pull away for its first victory of the season with a 15-3 triumph over Morse in a KVAC softball game Friday.
Already leading 1-0, Marrissa Caskin led off the Oak Hill third inning with a walk. After stealing second, an Alyssa Rouleau single, and a Shipbuilder error, Sadie Goulet knocked a two run double to left center. Brianna Hodgkins followed with a fly-ball double to center field to score two more runs, giving the Raiders a commanding 6-0 lead.
They would add three more runs in the fourth and four more in the seventh to round out the scoring.
Hodgkins finished with a pair of RBIs with a single and a double. Brooke LeBel and Rouleau each were repeat hitters for Oak Hill (1-1). LeBel also knocked in three runs.
Kortni Michaud earned the victory on the mound with eight strikeouts.
Hannah Russell and Morgan Cram each ripped a double for Morse in the loss.
Messalonskee 20, Lewiston 3
LEWISTON — Messalonskee pitcher Cassie Michaud shut out Lewiston through the first four innings of a 20-3 KVAC softball victory Friday.
Lewiston (0-2) landed all three of its runs in the fifth before the game ended by virtue of the mercy rule. Meghan Girouard, Megan Mathon and Cleo Miller all had singles for the Devils, with Mathon driving in a pair.
Oxford Hills 11, Skowhegan 3
PARIS — Oxford Hills used four hits, a pair of walks and a Skowhegan error to score five runs in the first inning on its way to an 11-3 victory over Skowhegan in season-opener action for both squads.
Trailing 1-0, Anna Winslow led off the Oxford Hills first with a single, which was followed by a pair of doubles by Ashley West and Brianna Martin to tie the game. After an error and a walk, Jordan Sanborn executed a squeeze bunt that scored Abby Bernier for the fourth Viking run.
Crystal West earned the victory on the mound, fanning 10 Skowhegan batters while walking only one. Martin had four hits, including a pair of doubles. Winslow and Ashely West each had a pair of hits in the win. Sanborn also made a rally-stopping catch in the second inning to cancel out an Indian rally preserving the three run lead at the time.
Skowhegan was led by Taylor Johnson’s three hits. Lyndsi Merrill and Mckayla Toth each had a pair of singles in the loss.
Spruce Mountain 3, Dirigo 1
JAY — Paula Despres fanned eight, walked one and gave up a pair of hits to help propel Spruce Mountain to a 3-1 victory over Dirigo in MVC softball action.
Alexi Deering led off the game with a double. After moving to third on an Ashley Quirrion single, Deering scored on an Ashley Dorey sacrifice fly for the game’s first run. Spruce Mountain (1-1) would add single runs in the third and fifth innings to round out the scoring. Dirigo’s lone run cam in the sixth.
Deering also had a single while Kaitlyn Castonguay added a pair of singles in the victory.
Fryeburg 10, Poland 0
FRYEBURG — Carla Tripp went 4-for-4 with four runs scored and an RBI to lead Fryeburg to a 10-0 victory over Poland in softball action Friday.
Maddie Pearson went 3-for-4 with a pair of RBIs as the Raiders improved to (2-0). Fryeburg collected 10 hits, including a two-run single by Bri Pelkie during a three-run fifth ining.
Junior first baseman Melora Lavoie recorded a double for the Knights (0-2) in a game of limited hitting. Poland allowed several of the Raider’s runs by making five errors over six defensive innings.
Hampden 4, Edward Little 1
AUBURN — Ashley Danforth fanned 11 batters as Hampden Academy marched to a 4-1 victory over Edward Little in KVAC softball action Friday.
The Broncos (2-0) spread their four runs over three innings. But notably, three came from the unearned variety.
Auburn pitcher Kory Norcross tried to help the Eddies (0-2) on offense by contributing one hit, two walks and a run scored. But, that was the only run Edward little managed to plate.
Girls lacrosse
Lewiston 21, Mtn. Valley 8
RUMFORD — Senior attacker Kayla Hamel posted a team-leading four goals as Lewiston collected a 21-8 triumph over Mountain Valley in the season-opener for both teams in KVAC girls’ lacrosse action Friday.
The Blue Devils (1-0) tallied 14 goals in the first half, and spread the scoring across all but two of its’ players before the finish. Junior midfielder Mariah Carrier pitched in with three goals.
Senior midfielder Ayla Allen used her height to score all but one of the Falcon’s (0-1) eight goals.
Goalie Jordan True made 14 saves for Mountain Valley, while goalie Kristin Burgess earned the win in net with seven saves for Lewiston.
Edward Little 17, Lincoln 1
AUBURN — Gabby Laperriere and Shelbea Russell netted four goals each and Allarie Lever added another pair as Edward Little rolled to a 17-1 victory over Lincoln Academy in KVAC girls’ lacrosse action Friday.
The Eddies (1-0) controlled the action from the beginning in the teams’ season-opener. Paige Landry faced no shots in the first half, and Julia Langerin stopped one of two she saw in the second in the victory.
Lexie Fassett scored the lone goal for the Eagles, Bayley Pendleton stopped 16 in the loss.
Baseball
Leavitt 8, Gardiner 5
TURNER — Freshman hurler Mitchell Davis fired four strong innings — allowing just two runs — to help lead Leavitt to an 8-5 victory over Gardiner in KVAC baseball action.
Senior Matt Bilodeau tossed the final three innings to preserver the victory. Holding on to a 3-2 lead late, the Leavitt bats came alive pushing five runs across the plate in the fifth and sixth innings. Bilodeau paced the Hornets (2-0) with three hits.
Tyler Hutchinson also had a pair of hits for the Knights.
Derek Meehan took the loss for Gardiner (1-1). Meehan also collected three hits at the plate.
Lewiston 9, Messalonskee 2
LEWISTON — Shawn Ricker’s two-run single capped a five-run second inning Friday and launched lewiston to a 9-2 KVAC baseball win over Messalonskee.
Ricker and Chris Madden each had two hits for the Blue Devils (2-0). Winning pitcher Luke Cote also had an RBI single in the rally that staked him to a 6-1 lead. Walks by Matt Bowen and David Cusson and a bunt single by Nick Perreault fueled the uprising.
Sam Dexter tripled twice and singled to lead the Eagles (1-1).
