HARTFORD, Conn. — Bates outlasted Trinity with three runs in the top of the 13th inning to take an 8-5 triumph in game two after dropping the opener 2-1 in NESCAC doubleheader baseball action Saturday.

Bates junior Ryan Sonberg walked to lead off the 13th inning of the nightcap, and Kevin Davis drove him in for the clinching run with a single to center field. Senior captain Mike Cummei and sophomore Griffin Tewksbury added RBI singles later in the inning to give Bates a three-run cushion.

Mike Antonellis completed an 11-out relief win by striking out the side in the bottom of the inning.

Men’s lacrosse

Connecticut 6, Bates 5

LEWISTON — Connecticut College overcame a 5-1 deficit and scored three goals in the final six minutes to grab a 6-5 victory over Bates in NESCAC men’s lacrosse action.

John Lyons scored three goals, and added an assist for the Camels (8-5). Tyler Corcoran notched one goal, the game-winner, and two assists.

The Bobcats (4-8) netted three goals in the second quarter to take a 4-1 lead at intermission, and added another tally early in the third frame for a 5-1 advantage.

The Camels scored their second goal of the game 20 minutes following their first. It was Lyons second tally, taking a pass from Corcoran to score the game’s only man-up goal.

Softball

Tufts 15, Bates 5

LEWISTON — Tufts  completed a three-game sweep of Bates with a 15-5 victory in NEACAC softball action.

The Jumbos (27-4) put four runs on the board before Bates even had a chance on offense. Tufts unloaded for another six runs in the top of the third inning to break the game open.

The Bobcats (14-9) scored their first run in the bottom of the third. Kiely Webster drew a leadoff walk with the help of two illegal pitches, and advanced to second and third bases on two more illegal pitches to Courtney Talcott

A Tufts pitching change resulted in the striking out of Talcott. But Karen Ullmann came up next and singled up the middle to score Webster before the Jumbos exited the inning.

Tufts’ third pitcher, Aly Moskowitz, allowed four more Bates runs. But she held the Bobcats scoreless over the final three innings for the win.

Stony Brook sweeps Maine

STONY BROOK, N.Y. — The University of Maine came up scoreless in a twinbill against Stony Brook, 3-0 and 1-0, in America East softball action.

Pitchers Ashley Kelley and Beth Spoehr turned in solid outings for the Black Bears. But a lack of offensive support defined their fate.

Suzanne Karath, who had knocked in the first run of the opener, started things off in the nightcap with a bunt single for the Seawolves (31-11) . Following an advance to second on a single and third on a stolen base, Karath scored the only run needed on a Black Bear (11-26) error.

Spoehr went six innigs while giving up six hits and just one run.
