The SAD 52 board of directors had approved a proposed budget that would be $23.2 million, compared to last year’s budget of $22.9 million, an increase of 1.3 percent.
In the proposed budget, 14 positions will be cut, but no programs are to be eliminated.
On May 1, at 6 p.m., at Leavitt Area High School, the annual budget approval vote will be held. In previous years, as few as 30 to 40 voters from the Leeds, Greene and Turner communities have taken the time to attend the budget meeting. That is a very sad state of circumstances.
Many people like to complain about their property taxes, which are determined, for the most part, by the district school budget. If people want the right to complain about the proposed increase in next year’s taxes, then they should attend both the May 1 meeting and take the time to vote on May 8.
The state mandates both votes.
Wouldn’t it be great to have an overflow audience at the meeting?
