AUBURN — Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, May 8, at Auburn Hall for voters to weigh in on the proposed school budget for 2012-13.
The budget, which takes effect July 1, is $35.9 million, of which $15.4 million would come from property taxpayers. That represents an increase of $844,925, which means a homeowner with property valued at $150,000 would owe $66 more a year in taxes, according to the School Department.
Superintendent Katy Grondin has said that the spending plan maintains all current student services and programs. It addresses only the most critical areas, she said, including giving iPad tablet computers to this year’s kindergarten students, which will boost student learning, Grondin said.
The budget adds two positions, an English language learner technician and speech clinician.
Grondin has said that Auburn spends $8,050 per pupil, below the state average of $9,623.
