FARMINGTON — The last of the 2012 Lenten Sunday Evening Services was held on Palm Sunday, April 1, at the Farmington Falls Union Baptist Church with six area churches sharing their musical talent, including piano music by David Hovey, a harmonica playing by Maurice Hovey and singing and humming by many individuals.
The Rev. John Tolman of the Farmington Falls Baptist Church welcomed a congregation of approximately 70, representing United Methodist from North Vienna, New Sharon, Farmington, Trinity and Mercer, New Sharon Congregational UCC and Farmington Falls Baptist.
The introit by everyone was “Jesus Loves Me, Easter Tells Me So.” The last purple Lenten candle was extinguished by Tolman as Linda Smith of Farmington read the representation of the candle. The New Sharon United Methodist Choir sang “I Thirst” and “Hosanna, Hosanna I Sing.”
Next on the agenda was Joys and Concerns, and one of the joys was Tolman’s wife, Jane, being back in the pew after having her aortic valve replaced. The second joy was the singing of “Happy Birthday” to their great-grandson, Lincoln John, 1.
Maurice Hovey, accompanied by his son, David, on piano, played “He Washed My Eyes with Tears” on his harmonica and sang lyrics for the offertory.
The Farmington Trinity United Methodist Choir sang “Redeemer” and “Step-By-Step” with hand clapping by the congregation. Mercer United Methodist performed “Blessed Quietness” and “Grace Alone.” Farmington Falls Union Baptist doesn’t have a choir so Tolman invited folks to join him in singing “It Is Finished.”
The Clergy Choir sang “To God Be The Glory,” then the combined choirs sang “The Psalms.” The service ended with everyone joining in to “God Be with You Till We Meet Again.” Finger foods and more fellowship followed.
