LEWISTON — Central Maine Credit Union, 1000 Lisbon St., received a second place national award from the Credit Union National Association in March 2012. This award recognizes credit unions that do an extraordinary job incorporating credit union philosophy into daily operations. The honor was received for its Monty Moose Youth Savers Program. The purpose of that program is to introduce children up to 12 years old to the credit union and to provide educational and fun ways to learn good savings habits. The program offers Monty Moose dollars with deposits to their accounts, which they save and redeem at Monty’s Store. In addition, there is a Web page dedicated to Monty Moose on the credit union’s website, e-newsletters, birthday gifts, holiday celebrations, drawings, contests, a library for Monty Moose members to borrow books. The credit union plans to expand its services in 2013 with the opening of a branch at 836 Center St., Auburn. Susan Streifel, chairwoman of the CUNA awards committee, right, presented the award to Vicki Stuart, CEO, Central Maine Credit Union.
