BUCKFIELD — After revising the budget and hiring Dana Lee as its new town manager, the town was able to reduce the amount it would need to borrow to pay for work on four town roads in the coming year.

Less than two weeks ago, the town planned on borrowing $198,000 to cover the cost of the roadwork, but it now intends to take out a $174,200 loan.

The proposed loan would be paid back over over four years at $46,000 a year.

Town Clerk Cindy Dunn says that $17,550 of the savings was found in a reserve account the town initially put aside to assist with the cost of the town’s salt and sand building.

“Long story short, we didn’t need those funds,” Dunn says. “We had other sources that funded that.”

Dunn says the rest of the savings was the result of hiring a new town manager.

The town plans to work on High Street and Purkis Road this summer, and begin work on Bear Pond Road and Jordan Road next spring.
