Many of the 24 students, raised in local communities across Oxford County, never had the privilege of attending a Boston Red Sox game.
While the day was mostly meant for fun, middle school director Paul Brouwer cited the historical implications of the Patriot’s Day outing and urged students to consider greater parallels to American history.
“Our middle schoolers are currently studying the American Revolution,” he said, “and to be in Boston on this important milestone in our country’s history and experience that excitement first-hand will be a lifelong memory for the kids.”
The day played host to a number of unique historical tidbits, both large and small: it was the first time in Hebron Academy history that the middle school attended a Red Sox game; storied Fenway Park was in the midst of celebrating 100 years of operation; the world’s oldest annual marathon, the Boston Marathon, was held; and the first gunshots of the American Revolutionary War were fired in Lexington and Concord, Mass., some 237 years ago.
