PARIS — Estimates for repairs to town roads are higher than selectmen or the Budget Committee had budgeted.

The lowest bids received for earth work and asphalt work would cost the town more than $577,000 this year. Selectmen recommended $514,000; the Budget Committee $400,000.

The current plan calls for improvements to sections of Elm Hill, Paris Hill, Twitchell, Brett Hill and Bisco roads. Town Manager Phil Tarr said he would meet with the road committee after town meeting voters decide how much to fund road improvements. He said some road improvements may have to wait until 2013.

Wildlife Society award

The Paris Conservation Commission recently received an award of recognition from the Maine chapter of the Wildlife Society for its work in conserving public spaces and natural resources in town. Chairman Franca Ainsworth accepted the award, crediting the other board members and the previous chairman for their contributions.

2011 audit

Selectman Ted Kurtz said the 2011 audit came far too late this year. Selectmen didn’t get a report from the auditor until a June 4 public hearing. Kurtz requested a discussion later this month on how to get the audit report earlier next year.
