AUBURN — Citylink will extend bus service six days per week to the Lake Auburn Outlet Beach beginning Saturday.
The Lewiston-Auburn Transit Committee voted Thursday to divert the Auburn Mall shuttle bus to include the beach on Center Street. The new schedule will send buses to the beach during the even-numbered hours Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Weekday buses bound for Lewiston, by way of the beach, will leave Wal-Mart every even numbered hour on the hour.
Weekday buses bound for Auburn, by way of the beach, will leave Wal-Mart every even numbered hour on the half-hour.
Citylink will offer service to the beach every half-hour on Saturdays throughout the summer.
Members agreed the new service should begin Saturday, the opening day at Outlet Beach. The Auburn Recreation Department and city councilors Tizz Crowley and Leroy Walker are hosting an opening day cookout and celebration from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. Activities will include cookouts, games and music.
The beach will be open from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily throughout the summer, but without a lifeguard on duty.
