NORWAY — Voters at Monday night’s annual town meeting will be asked to approve a $2.7 million municipal budget, rental and street vendor ordinances and a bridge-building project.

The meeting on the 46-article warrant begins at 7 p.m. June 18 in the Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School Forum in Paris.

The budget is less than 3 percent more than this year’s budget. A significant increase in the town’s share for SAD 17, a $55,000 drop in state revenues, a $40,0000 increase for retirement payments and costly road and maintenance have affected the budget this year, officials said.

Voters will be asked to approve $740,000 for the Highway and Public Works Department, $353,000 for road improvements, $62,105 for in-town road improvements, $460,346 for the Police Department, and $219,800 for the Fire Department.

Voters will also act on several ordinances including an updated rental occupancy ordinance which will require stricter standards for housing inspections. The ordinance will also allow Code Enforcement Officer Joelle Corey-Whitman to issue, enforce or revoke the occupancy permits. Fines for violations have also been increased under the proposal.

Voters will be asked to approve an amended street vendors permit, which will repeal the 1936 hawking and peddling ordinance officials say is outdated.

A new electrical ordinance, if approved, will mandate an electrical disconnect switch on structures that can be pulled in case of a structure fire. It is a safety issue for firefighters to ensure they enter a building without fear of electrocution.

Voters will be asked to appropriate up to $20,000 from the Community and Economic Development reserve fund to install a pedestrian bridge across Pennesseewassee Stream to connect the Water Street parking lot to Main Street. If the plan is approved, the request will leave an estimated balance of $45,675.

In other capital items, voters will be asked to appropriate:

* $45,000 for the reserve account for truck and plow gear replacement.

* $45,000 for the reserve account for the eventual replacement of tractor-type highway equipment such as the grader, loaders, sweeper and trackless tractor.

* $5,000 for the sidewalk and traffic safety.

* $8,000 for the bridge repair reserve.

* $4,000 for the reserve for repair of cemeteries, headstones and fences.
