RANGELEY — On Sunday, July 1, Robert and Nancy Ludwig will present the annual “Stars and Stripes” concert, the first performance in the Watermelon Series, an outreach program at the Church of the Good Shepherd.

The concert has become a tradition, featuring works by Handel, Mendelssohn, Franck and other composers. The performance traditionally concludes with a  patriotic singalong.

There will be a meet-the-artists reception in the undercroft following the 6 p.m. concert. Admission is free, but donations will be accepted at the door for outreach programs. The church is at 2614 Main St.

Nancy has had an active career as a church musician, concert organist, teacher, and choir trainer. In concert, she has performed the complete organ works of Brahms and Franck and, along with Robert, has presented the complete organ works of J.S. Bach.

A native of Connecticut, she holds degrees in organ performance from the Curtis Institute of Music and Yale University.

Over a period of 23 years, Robert served as full-time organist/choirmaster at Christ Church Cathedral in Lexington, KY., and Cathedral of the Incarnation in Garden City, N.Y.

He holds degrees in music from Davidson College and Yale University, and served on the Fulbright screening committee for organ and harpsichord. He has served as professor of church music at Mercer School of Theology and most recently retired from his position as director of vocal music and music theory at Garden City High School.

The Ludwigs recently accepted appointments as organist/choirmaster and associate at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Bangor.
