It was with discontent that I read the editorial June 22 about nightlife in Lewiston clubs on Park Street, riddled with rude behavior such as noise, fights and bad language, etc.

The editorial used the Midnight Blues Club as a comparison, naming it as a real trouble spot with many police calls and arrests. To be honest, the building on the corner of Court and Main streets in Auburn was known as the Midnight Blues Club. Two other clubs were in the same building. On the upper level to the right was a small club, and in the basement was the former Cellar Door.

The two clubs catered to a younger crowd, in the 20s age group. A room full of testosterone and alcohol spelled trouble.

I am a former president of the Maine Blues Society and a disciple of the blues. Most people who attend the blues venues are middle-age and go home by 10 p.m. They are not the troublemakers.

So, thanks for the black eye, because most readers will think that blues patrons are troublemakers.
