PARIS — Two candidates from the June 12 election are running again for an open seat on the Paris Board of Selectmen.

With the nomination window closed, James Hakala and Robert Wessels have submitted nomination papers for the special election on July 19. Selectmen ratified the warrant at Monday’s meeting.

Hakala, who manages Hakala Transport, a contractor for the U.S. Postal Service, has been on three town boards and committees recently and has attended every selectmen’s meetings in recent years. He and his wife Paula became involved in town politics when selectmen approved ATV use past their home in 2010.

The X-Tra Mile ATV Club has since built a new trail that avoids the Hakalas’ home.

Wessels has lived in the area since 2003 and worked as a manager at Walmart before becoming the store manager for U.S. Cellular stores in Paris and North Conway, N.H. At a forum in May when Wessels was running against Alicia Cushman and Gerald Kilgore, Wessels said he plans on using his corporate experience with Wal-Mart and U.S. Cellular to help bring people together and broker compromise.

Hakala and Wessels will be running to replace Selectman Ted Kurtz, who resigned from the board last month. The term ends June 30, 2013.

The July 19 election will take place at the Paris Fire Station. Voting hours are from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.
