PARIS — A Rumford man pleaded guilty to three drug trafficking charges Tuesday, including a May 1 charge for which he hadn’t yet been indicted.

Jeffrey M. Hill, 23, of 201 Waldo St., Apt. 11, pleaded guilty to two charges of selling crack cocaine last year in Rumford and Mexico. Those charges were dropped from Class A to Class B. In May, while awaiting trial on those charges, he was arrested again on charges of trafficking prescription drugs.

The charges had been aggravated because the drug sales had happened in school zones. They were downgraded in exchange for his guilty plea.

Hill chose to plead guilty to the charge rather than wait for a grand jury indictment. A terrorizing charge for a March 14 incident was dismissed.

Hill was sentenced to eight years, with all but two suspended, and three years of probation. He must pay $400 for each of the charges, totaling $1,200 in fines. Once released, bail conditions prevent use or possession of illegal drugs. He will be subject to random search and testing.

All three charges stem from controlled purchases by confidential informants working with the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency and the Rumford Police Department.
