AUBURN — One of the victims in a fatal crash Tuesday on Merrow Road was identified in an obituary Thursday as 22-year-old Stephen Paul Pessant of Auburn.

The second victim was identified by Auburn police on Friday morning as Logan Pleau-Frangoulis, 21, also of Auburn.

The two died early Tuesday morning when Pleau-Frangoulis’s 1992 Lexus, left the road, struck a tree, rolled and burst into flames.

Since Tuesday, the victims have each been remembered by hundreds in memorial pages set up on Facebook.

Both men were graduates of Edward Little High School, according to friends who gathered at the crash site throughout the day Tuesday.

“They both were such amazing kids with so many talents,” said Billy Malia, a friend to both victims. “I’ve never seen more smiles on people’s face than when these two would show up. Somehow, they would bring such a glow with them and they were always smiling.”

Pessant was known for his “Kramer hair,” Malia said Thursday, and for a smile that never left his face.

“He always knew just what to say to make you laugh,” Malia said.

Pessant loved music, he said. He had thousands upon thousands of songs in his private collection and would burn CDs for his friends.

“We all called him DJ Stevie Wonder,” Malia said.

The cause of the crash was still being investigated. One witness said the accident occurred when the car slid off the road just after cresting a hill. The car hit a soft shoulder on the right, and struck several stumps and trees before flipping and coming to a halt in the roadway.

Friends of the victims were reaching out to the families in the aftermath of the double fatality. Malia built a pair of crosses to be erected at the crash site. Donation jars were put out at the Gridiron Restaurant in Lewiston and at Roy’s All-Steak Hamburgers on Minot Avenue in Auburn.

“I started making them to help both families with the cost of everything,” Malia said. “I felt it was the least I could do.”
