PARIS — The Board of Selectmen will hold a workshop Monday to discuss hiring a new town manager to take over when Phil Tarr’s contract expires at the end of the year.
In June, selectmen voted 3-1 to inform Tarr of their intent to not renew his contract, which expires Dec. 31. Had the board not given Tarr notice, his contract would have been extended automatically for two more years, according to its terms.
The workshop will be at 7 p.m. Monday at the Town Office. It follows a brief meeting where selectmen are set to approve the warrant for a special town meeting on Aug. 13. The public is welcome to attend.
The board also accepted an $80,775 bid for a truck body and plow from H.P Fairfield of Scarborough. Tarr said that while Viking Cives gave a lower bid, they offered a plow and dump body that were lower than the town had asked for. Tarr said the size of the plow and dump body are important, because the truck will be used in rural areas where a high plow is important to deal with snowdrifts.
Selectmen voted unanimously to accept the H.P. Fairfield bid.
The board also voted to accept a $3,638 grant from the Maine Bureau of Highway Safety that the Paris Police Department will use to staff late-night drunken-driving enforcement patrols from July through September.
Selectmen approved $10,168 to purchase a hydraulic pump for the Paris Fire Department’s Jaws of Life. About $8,000 will come from the balance of a grant from the Stephen and Tabitha King Foundation.
