MEXICO — Maine State Police said Friday they are still seeking a Mexico man for questioning in last month’s death of Thomas Joudrey IV, but police do not consider him a suspect.

Joudrey, 30, of Canton was shot in the head in the early-morning hours of July 24 at a trailer in Riverside Park, a mobile home park off Route 2, behind the Jehovah’s Witnesses’ Kingdom Hall in Mexico.

He died two days later after being taken off life support at Maine Medical Center in Portland.

A search on July 24 failed to find Robert Terrill, 28, who lived at the home but left before police arrived at about 4:20 a.m.

“He was obviously inside the trailer (at the time), but I wouldn’t classify him as a witness or suspect at this point, but we need to talk to him,” Sgt. Mark Holmquist of the Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit said Friday. “Anything he can give us would be good information.”

Mark Belserene, administrator of the Maine Medical Examiner’s Office, said Friday the autopsy report on the cause and manner of Joudrey’s death wasn’t finished.

Terrill and another man were in the mobile home with Joudrey at the time of the shooting. The third man has been questioned by police.

Mexico Police Chief James Theriault said July 24 that Terrill was a “person of interest,” wanted for questioning.

“He is a key to this puzzle,” Theriault said. “We need to interview him and find out what he knows.”

Investigators said the trailer is rented to Dan Riley, who, police said, was in New Hampshire visiting his father at the time of the shooting.

Police say the gun used in the shooting was a .45-caliber, semiautomatic handgun. It belongs to Riley, who is renting the mobile home, they said.

Terrill is 6 feet tall and weighs about 175 pounds. He has brown hair and blue eyes. He left the scene wearing tan pants and a black T-shirt and carrying an olive-green duffel bag. Anyone with information on Terrill’s whereabouts is asked to call 911.

Holmquist declined to release further details, citing the pending investigation.

On Thursday, relatives and friends of Joudrey placed a fictitious “Wanted” notice for Terrill on Facebook. By early Friday afternoon, it had been shared 90 times.
