This is in response to the headline “Suspect had seen shrink” (July 28).

I feel the term “shrink” is a derogatory term. The field of psychiatry is a professional part of our medical industry. People who are psychiatrists are medical doctors who specialize in mental health. Not only is the term “shrink” a slap in their face, it also affects patients who seek their care. Consider the impact on a person who is undergoing treatment when they see such a headline.

The article was reprinted from The Washington Post; however, that does not excuse the Sun Journal’s inconsiderate use of the slang in the headline it splashed on the July 28 paper.

I would encourage the Sun Journal staff to report the news and not use inappropriate and hurtful slang to catch readers’ eyes.
